Starting Mounjaro: Why I Started and What I Hoped to Achieve

It’s been 13 months since I gave birth and I’m only now beginning to feel like myself again. Not because my body has “bounced back” (whatever that means), but because I finally made a decision that’s starting to bring me peace: I started Mounjaro.

It’s week 2 now, and I can already say I wish I had done this sooner.

Getting Here Was Not Easy

After pregnancy, my body didn’t return to its pre-baby size. Month after month, I felt stuck, uncomfortable in my clothes, frustrated with my reflection, and constantly battling a sense of failure every time I gave up (again) on a new healthy routine.

At one point, I even booked a consultation about Ozempic. But the doctor told me that while it can aid in weight loss, it often comes with a significant loss in muscle mass, around 40% he said. Instead, he encouraged me to journal my food on chat gpt as it easily can count calories, eat healthy, move more. All valid advice, and I really did try… again.

But like many women, I have a full life and limited time. Every time I started strong, I’d slowly fall off. Too busy. Too tired. Too overwhelmed.

Making the Decision to Try Mounjaro

After months of hesitation, I made the choice to consult a different doctor — this time with the intention of getting help, not another guilt trip. He recommended I start on Mounjaro 2.5mg, a GLP-1 medication now approved for weight loss in Europe.

And on Wednesday, June 4 2025, I took my first dose.

Week 1: A Switch Flipped

Within 24 hours, the difference was shocking in a good way. My appetite dropped significantly. For the first time in years, I wasn’t thinking about food all day. My cravings for sweets, bread, and mindless snacking disappeared almost completely.

My husband noticed it before I even said anything.

“You’re not going back for more?” he asked, surprised.
And honestly? I wasn’t even tempted.

What I’m Feeling at Week 2

I know it’s still early, but the mental shift has been huge. It’s no longer a constant struggle to make healthier choices — I’m just less hungry, so I can pause and pick better foods without the pressure or battle of willpower.

For the first time in a long time, I feel hopeful.

I’m not thinking about numbers or goal weights right now. I’m thinking about how I want to feel — strong, happy, confident in my own body again. And yes, I’m dreaming of putting on that pair of skinny jeans that has been mocking me from the back of the closet for two years.

Final Thoughts

If you’re reading this and feeling where I was — tired, defeated, unsure — just know that it’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to change your mind. And it’s okay to do what works for you.

I hesitated for months, and I wish I hadn’t. Even just two weeks in, I feel like I’ve taken a real step forward, one that actually feels doable.

And I’ll keep sharing the journey with you, every step of the way.
