Healthy Living Magazine: How do you compare working with different lead
actors like Liam Neeson, Angela Bettis, Laura Linney,
Val Kilmer, Christina Aguilera and Cher? Which actor
has taught you the most?
Kristen Bell: I have been lucky to have had great working experiences.
I think that’s why I keep coming back for more. I love to work
because I’ve met so many lovely people. Every actor has a
different process—and it’s always interesting to see when
working with someone new. Personally, I’m a technical actor.
I like to know where the cameras are, where my light is, where
my mark is, and I like to have a dialogue with the camera
operators. Some actors are the opposite and pretend like the
cameras aren’t there at all.
Healthy Living Magazine: What is a healthy relationship?
Kristen Bell: One where you are honest and forthright, even—and
especially—about the topics that scare you.
Healthy Living Magazine: How different do you think your family and your
daily routine are from usual families?
Kristen Bell: My “routine” changes depending on my work schedule,
and sometimes I have a few weeks off, and sometimes I’ll work
every day for weeks. It all depends. So I guess in that way I’m
different than the norm, but honestly my life feels very normal
to me. I like to make dinner. I hate to work out. I like to see
movies and spend time with the people I love.

Healthy Living Magazine: Did your husband’s troubled past with drugs and
alcohol in any way make you more mindful in your
decision to have a baby?
Kristen Bell: Not in the slightest. I know exactly who he is now, and
who he used to be is irrelevant. Everyone was someone
different 10 years ago. Some people change a lot, some only
a little, but you can always tell who someone is by watching
their feet. It is people’s actions, not their words, that tell you
exactly who they are.

Healthy Living Magazine: You admit to not being able to bond very well with your
baby during pregnancy. What kind of bond do you have now?
Kristen Bell: How could I bond with someone I didn’t know? I was
honest publicly about how unchartered the waters feel being
pregnant for the first time. I didn’t know HOW to feel—there
is no manual for making new humans. I understood the
logistics but had no experiences with which to compare it,
and I wasn’t just going to fake it. I was comforted to hear
other mothers felt the same way—I think it’s so important to
be honest about what you are feeling even if you feel like it’s
“wrong.” Everyone’s journey is different. Within a few hours
of having my daughter, my bond with her was like nothing I
had ever felt, and now she is my very best friend.
