HL: After all these years, you still have a very lean, fit and healthy looking body. What tips could you give our readers to stay fit and healthy at any age, and what kind of workouts do you stick to?

Chilli: First of all, I wanna say that it’s never too late to change your eating lifestyle. And it has to be a lifestyle. I’ll always tell everybody, “Don’t ever put the word diet into your vocabulary. Don’t go on diets. That’s silly,” you just have to eat right. Just change it. It has to become a lifestyle change whenever you decide that you’re ready. A lot of people will see something or read something, get excited and they think, “Okay, I’m gonna do it.” But they’re really not ready yet and they fall off, and they get upset with themselves because they feel useless. Don’t look at it like that because everybody falls short at some point. You have to be mentally ready, and know that you love yourself so much that you want to take care of your body. You have to! We have to honor and take care of the temple, and that’s our body. When it comes to foods to cut out, bad carbs are just evil. You shouldn’t eat anything white, like white sugar, refined stuff. I don’t do any kind of soda. No carbonated drinks. I don’t eat meat. I’m a pescatarian, but I will eventually cut that out. I don’t even eat all fish, any of the scavengers, the bottom feeders like shrimp, lobster or scallions.

I would just tell the readers to educate themselves. Everything that you like, there’s always a healthier version of that, so you don’t feel like you’re going cold turkey and just giving up everything that your taste buds are used to. Your taste buds will adjust. You start eating better, you’re going to feel better, you’re going to look better have more energy.

And you should definitely incorporate working out. I’m not a gym person, I work out at my home. I do have a whole weights set in the gym. I do a lot of workout DVDs from Beach Body, and I usually do all the ones that have weights incorporated in the workouts. You have to figure out what you like. Some people like to run outside, but whatever that is, figure that out and stick with that. I’ll always encourage women to involve weights in their workouts because it keeps everything high-and-tight, and that’s what we want.

HL: How do you encourage your son to maintain a healthy lifestyle at such a young and carefree age?

Chilli: I show him literature. We talk about it. He has some friends that are seriously overweight and he sees how they eat. And I talk to his friends too, because it’s something that Tron has been around pretty much his whole life even at a time when he’s in college and he was probably eating a little bit more fast food than I wanted him to. So I get on him, talk to him, break it all down and then he’s on. Remember being in college too? The struggle is real. But at the same time, you have to learn if you’re gonna go to a fast food restaurant, at least don’t get the fried stuff. Get something that is baked or get the salad with grilled chicken strips instead of fried chicken strips. There’s always a way around it.


HL: Do you have a skin care regimen?

Chilli: Kind of. I’m a product junkie. I’ll try everything, and I’d give it a good month or so to see if I would like it. But I think the most important thing is the food because if you don’t eat right, it’ll come out in your skin. I drink a lot of alkaline water. You have to exfoliate once a week to make sure that that layer of the skin is gone and you have that glow. I’m definitely into getting facials and indulgences like that. Whatever I can do to take care of my skin, I do it.


HL: Do you have any recommendations for aging skin prevention?

Chilli: I like scrubs. A good scrub is a good anti-aging regimen. I like to use coconut oil on my skin. But when you talked about firming the skin I’m not quite sure if there is an over-the-counter product that works for that. You have to get different kinds of facial treatments like laser to go below the dermis to help your body to boost its own collagen. That doesn’t happen just at home.


HL: What is your number one health tip?

Chilli: Water and sleep. The number one is water. Drink a lot of water. I like to I say you can drink enough water. It makes a huge difference in your skin. It’s just the way you feel, your sleep pattern, because it flushes all the yucky stuff out. And you have to be getting proper rest and give your body that time to repair itself to stay young and healthy.
