The rate of gun deaths in the United States rose in 2016 to about 12 per 100,000 people, the CDC said in a report. In 2015 the rate was 11 for every 100,000 people. 2016 was the second year in a row that gun-related deaths increase.

In 2013, there were 73,505 nonfatal firearm injuries (23.2 injuries per 100,000 U.S. citizens), and 33,636 deaths due to “injury by firearms” (10.6 deaths per 100,000 U.S. citizens), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

• For every one person killed with guns, two more are injured.

• 162% of firearm deaths in the US are suicides.

• 7 children and teens a day are killed with guns in the US.

• 50 women in an average month are shot to death by intimate partners in the US.

• Background checks have blocked over 3 million guns sales.

• Black men are 13x more likely than white men to be shot and killed with guns.

• The presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation increases the risk of the woman being killed by 5x.
